An attorney and certified player-agent, Levien has spent the past decade negotiating contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He has represented dozens of professional athletes, including NBA lottery picks, all-stars and champions. A list of the athletes he has worked on behalf of includes Kevin Martin, Andre Miller, Grant Hill, Udonis Haslem, Hedo Turkoglu, Loren Woods and Tim Duncan.
Levien is experienced at navigating the contract negotiation, draft, media and endorsement processes. He has represented professional teams, front office executives and coaches, as well as political leaders and Fortune 100 companies in complex contract negotiations and in state and federal courts and arbitrations. Levien served as a strategist for The Honorable Harold Ford Jr., United States Congress, including as the speechwriter for the Keynote Address at the 2000 Democratic National Convention; he also worked in The White House. Levien received faculty appointments at Harvard Law School and the University of Michigan, where he taught courses in law and political science, and his writings have appeared in publications including The Harvard Journal on Legislation.
With a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement, Levien appeared as a commentator on ESPN during the negotiations over the most recent NBA labor-management agreement in 2005. He has also appeared frequently on television and radio to discuss business topics in sports, including on ESPN, MSNBC, CBS, and National Public Radio.
A graduate of Pomona College, where he was a member of the basketball team, Levien served as an editor of the Michigan Law Review while earning his law degree and master's in public policy from the University of Michigan.
