MAYOR JOHN C. CURRAN
Mayor Curran is a lifelong resident of Woburn, Massachusetts. He graduated from Woburn High School in 1984 and went on to Boston College to obtain his Bachelors Degree in 1988.
He worked in the private sector for 10 years as a senior fund analyst in mutual funds. From there he made a career change into the public sector as a grant writer for the Middlesex Sheriffs Office. In his four years there he was extremely successful, garnering over 6 million dollars in grant funds.
Along the way the Mayor has been involved in local politics for the past fourteen years. In 1991 Mr. Curran was elected Alderman at Large at the age of 24. He effectively served two terms as Alderman at Large from 1992 to 1995. In both elections, John Curran "topped the ticket" by receiving more votes than any other candidate.
After an unsuccessful bid for Mayor 1995, John continued to broaden his service to the people of Woburn by serving as a member of the Woburn Planning Board from 1996 to 1999. In 1999 Mr. Curran ran for alderman at large again and served one more term on the council before running for Mayor in 2001.
In the last year and half that he has been Mayor he has pushed an aggressive agenda. A new high school, a new master plan and a more efficient and cleaner water system are just a few of the things he is working toward.
