MAYOR JOHN C. CURRAN AND PLANNING BOARD DIRECTOR PREPARE FOR NEXT VISION 2020 BENCHMARKS

Mayor John C. Curran announced today that the City of Woburn is ready to commence the next stages of its Vision 2020 Master Plan process. Stated Mayor Curran: "The very essence of any community development strategy is resident input. Our Vision 2020 project will be the vehicle that drives future municipal decisions regarding land use, resource protection, housing, transportation, economic development, and capital improvements. We had a high level of public participation at the October and January planning sessions, and I encourage residents to be just as engaged over the next few months of forums." The City of Woburn signed the Community Development Plan Scope last month, and is continuing its collaboration with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council to ensure that the City’s community development strategy will be competitive and viable.

Stated Planning Board Director Ed Tarallo: "We will hold one public forum in each of the next three months regarding the following: natural resources and open space, economic development initiatives, and housing strategies. At each topic-specific forum, citizens will have the opportunity to help shape and mold these key elements of the city’s comprehensive plan. Comprehensive plans are dependent upon inclusive dialogue, so high attendance levels are imperative."

Tarallo stated that the first forum on Natural Resources and Open Space will be held on the evening of May 21st. More information will be released within the next week, but he encouraged residents to mark their calendars.
