MAYOR CURRAN INVITES WOBURN RESIDENTS TO HELP CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH THE AFRICA RESOURCE INSTITUTE

Mayor Curran invites Woburn residents to join him on February 8th, 2003, at Winchester’s Eleventh Annual Black History Month Celebration. The nationally acclaimed Hampton University Concert Choir will perform at the event, which takes place at 7:00pm at the McCall Middle School Auditorium, located on 485 Main Street in Winchester. Stated Mayor Curran, "This event will give Woburn residents the opportunity to hear world-class singers, while celebrating the contributions Black Americans have made to our community." The event is sponsored by the Africa Resource Institute, whose mission is to promote community and intercultural understanding, while encouraging the creation of networking processes that promote unity in diversity.

At the event, Mayor Curran will deliver a proclamation that declares February as Black History Month in the City of Woburn and commemorates various achievements of Black Americans including "the invention of the steam engine, the gas mask, the automatic stop sign, and the blood bank." The proclamation ends with a public invitation for the residents of Woburn to celebrate Black History Month. The Mayor also notes: "Ticket proceeds support scholarships as well as educational and cultural projects sponsored by the Africa Resource Institute, so the event will be a great way for our community to give back, while having a great time together!" Ticket information can be obtained by calling 781-937-3954.
