MAYOR JOHN C. CURRAN AND CONSERVATION COMMISSION INVITE RESIDENTS TO PUBLIC HEARING ON NEW FOLEY BEACH PARK PROJECT
Mayor John C. Curran announced today that the Woburn Conservation Commission will be conducting a public hearing relative to the proposal filed to construct a walking park at the New Foley Beach site on Horn Pond. At the hearing, the Conservation Commission will hear the Notice of Intent filed in accordance with the Wetlands Protection Act, M.G.L chapter 131, section 40, and the Woburn Wetlands Ordinance. The public hearing will begin at 7:30pm on May 15th, 2003, in the City Council Chambers. Stated Mayor Curran: "I encourage Woburn residents to attend in order to learn more about this redevelopment project. The proposal is to construct a passive park and walking paths at the site of the New Foley Beach parking area. Not only will the park aesthetically complement the natural beauty of the Horn Pond area, it will promote groundwater recharge to our municipal wells."
The Mayor stated further: "This proposal speaks to the Citys ingenuity in redeveloping open space within an environmentalist framework. This will not only be a great walking park complete with the expected amenities like pathways, natural vegetation, park benches and water bubbler; it will also reduce direct runoff of storm water to Horn Pond and allow more to enter the ground water supply."
The Mayor mentioned this would be a collaborative effort between the City of Woburn Public Works Department, the City Engineers office, the Woburn Lions Club, and various park sponsors. "Members of the general public are also welcome collaborators," stated the Mayor. "We hope to create a park that will be utilized by as many Woburn residents as possible; therefore, we welcome all feedback, as everyones ideas are important."
