MAYOR JOHN C. CURRAN INVITES RESIDENTS TO ATTEND
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FORUM
Mayor John C. Curran announced the agenda and schedule for the next Vision 2020 public forum, focusing on economic development. Beginning at 7:00pm on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, the forum will be held at the Shamrock School. Mayor Curran stated: "The purpose of the next session is to elicit and record input from residents, landowners, and the business community on their goals, objectives, and opinions relative to economic development in Woburn. Planning Director Ed Tarallo has prepared an agenda that will incorporate data and themes of past forums, while encouraging participants to voice new ideas for future planning."
Stated Tarallo: "Participants can expect to learn about the current economic conditions in Woburn, while having the opportunity to comment on the type and density of business development desired for the city. This meeting will help the city prioritize economic development strategies." The format of discussion will consist of four parts. Themes and data will be addressed first, including both a review of economic development baseline data, and an open dialogue regarding priorities and alternatives. Land uses and business density will be discussed generally, and then location specific proposals will be addressed. Lastly, a "straw poll" will be taken. Tarallo stated that this will measure the support participants express for the concepts discussed which ultimately will help the City rate public input.
The Mayor concluded: "Citizen input will help the Planning Director investigate alternative implementation tools and develop ideas for how Woburn will achieve its economic development goals. The discussions these forums produce will provide the basis for what will be studied and incorporated into the draft plan for future development in Woburn. Those who want to be a part of envisioning Woburns future should attend."
